This guide will assist you in deciding whether switching to Trumba Calendar is
the right decision for you.
About Trumba Calendar
The Trumba Calendar service is an on-line calendar
service that is a great way to keep groups organized and publish events to the
web. Like iCalDates, Trumba Calendar lets you to publish calendars from
programs such as Apple iCal and WinDates. Trumba Calendar provides
many additional features allowing you to you edit your calendar directly
through the Web and publish your calendar through the Web and email in
many different formats.
See the
What can I do with Trumba? help topic for an overview of what you can
accomplish using Trumba Calendar. You can also take the
Trumba Tour for a detailed demonstration of Trumba capabilities.
Should You Switch to Trumba?
While Trumba Calendar is a great service, it
may not make sense for you to switch to Trumba. It depends on how
you are using the iCalDates service.
If you are using iCalDates to publish a calendar so others can access it
through a Web browser, then Trumba Calendar is a great choice. However,
if you are using iCalDates to synchronize your calendar between two computers,
Trumba Calendar is probably not right for you.
Synchronizing Calendars
Trumba Calendar can be used to synchronize calendars
between different computers but there are some things to watch out for.
One difference between iCalDates and Trumba Calendar is how your calendar is
stored within the service. iCalDates stores your calendar as-is in a file
within the service. This means that no information is lost which is
important when synchronizing calendars between different computers.
When you publish a calendar to Trumba Calendar, the
calendar data is loaded into the Trumba database so that events can be edited
and accessed more efficiently for display on the web. The downside is
that certain information may be lost because it cannot be stored in the Trumba
database.
For instance, the WinDates calendar software offers
features such as birthday age calculation that are not part of the iCalendar
standard. These settings are not currently saved within Trumba
Calendar. If you subscribe to the calendar from another computer, the
WinDates specific information will not be available. For a list of
WinDates data not supported by Trumba Calendar, see the
WinDates to Trumba Conversion Guide.
